  • We are researching ophthalmic diagnosis using artificial intelligence, including large-scale multimodal models.We have established an ophthalmology big data infrastructure with the university as a hub and established a university venture, DeepEyeVision, Inc.Connecting our research pipeline to the venture's development pipeline, we have already launched two certified AI medical device programs.(DeepEyeVision for California: AI for visualizing vascular density deviations in ultra-widefield color fundus images, and DeepEyeVision for RetinaStation: AI for visualizing abnormal regions in standard-field fundus photographs).Adopted by NEDO and the Strategic Innovation Creation Program, together with omics research using 30,000 samples of intraocular fluid, we will advance the elucidation of pathological conditions and AI that will enable all physicians to make specialized diagnoses.

  • 　My research focuses on diabetes nursing, chronic disease management, and patient self-management education support. I particularly emphasize supporting outpatient care for patients with chronic diseases and evaluating the quality of nursing practice.As a new initiative, I am participating in a project to develop next-generation nursing care systems utilizing AI technology at the Center for Cybermedicine Research. Based on the large-scale medical database of the University of Tsukuba Hospital, we are advancing the development of integrated systems including natural language processing for nursing record analysis, real-time patient monitoring, and AI-driven clinical decision support. Specifically, I am engaged in the development and validation of AI models for delirium risk prediction in ICU patients. I aim to integrate clinical insights from nursing practice into the development of innovative healthcare systems using AI technology.

  • I work as a pediatrician and clinical geneticist at a university hospital.The main specialty is genetic analysis, which detects changes in one or two disease-causing genes from the approximately 3 billion base pairs of human sequences to diagnose rare diseases and other conditions.The field of genetic analysis uses a variety of programs and tools from gene sequence data, many of which are still under development and often require programming knowledge to run the tools.Although I myself do not have the knowledge and skills to develop programs and tools, I believe that I can serve as a bridge between clinical medicine and informatics by (1) asking what parts of clinical practice are troubled and what parts can be simplified with programs and tools, and (2) asking how technologies developed by informatics researchers can be implemented in the clinical field. We believe that we can do this.Through this project, we hope to provide accurate diagnosis and less burdensome testing to patients by bridging different fields.

  • Metabolism can be traced back to the birth of life and plays an important role in not only metabolic diseases but also all kinds of life phenomena. Using metabolic product sensor molecules that monitor the movement of metabolic products, we are identifying new metabolic systems and developing various forms of medical applications, and are conducting research aimed at both achieving a novel fundamental understanding of life phenomena and developing groundbreaking medical applications that can be delivered to tomorrow's patients.

  • I am a neurosurgeon (Belarus) and completed my PhD at the Department of Neurosurgery at the University of Tsukuba. I am developing new compounds for neutron capture therapy of brain tumors. I am also involved in the development and clinical trials of a hand gesture electromyogram analysis system to create new rehabilitation for stroke patients. I teach medical English and supervise young doctors in writing papers on neurosurgery.

  • The number of allergy sufferers around the world is increasing every year, and it is reported that approximately one in two people in Japan suffer from some form of allergic disease.
    While severe allergic reactions can be life-threatening, daily allergic symptoms can also lead to social losses by reducing quality of life and work efficiency.
    I use immunological approaches to identify biomarkers for severe asthma and drug allergy and to extract novel therapeutic targets.
    We are also working on the development of novel adjuvants for allergen immunotherapy.
    Through research incorporating serum omics, genomic analysis, and AI diagnostic technologies, we aim to improve the quality of life impaired by allergies and realize a richer life.

  • I am conducting research aimed at creating Planetary Health Nutrition to promote the health of both humans and the planet through food.
    Specifically, we conduct a wide range of basic research, from elucidating the mechanisms by which changes in the nutritional environment over several days, such as overnutrition and malnutrition, induce transitions in homeostatic set points at the cellular and individual level as “nutritional stress,” to developing the peripheral equipment and analysis technologies necessary to elucidate this mechanism. We also conduct a wide range of applied research, such as the development of devices for real-time monitoring of human health and the development of planetary health foods that do not place a burden on the earth.
